The Housing Project
The law is on their side
more often than
they know.
Legal advocacy and tenant organizing for Atlanta families facing eviction. 4,200 cases. 73% stayed housed. We've been at this since 2018.
Serving Atlanta-area tenants only. Our services are always free.
01 / Who We Are
Two attorneys. A spreadsheet. Six years later, 4,200 cases.
We started in 2018 because eviction law in Georgia is complex, landlord attorneys are well-funded, and most tenants face that alone. Seventy-three percent of our clients stayed housed. Not because they got lucky. Because they had someone in their corner who knew the law.
Our Work
Every angle, covered.
We show up at the courthouse. We help tenants form associations. We track legislation and respond when it matters. We do not do charity. We do structural change.
The numbers the city doesn’t advertise
73%of Atlanta tenants facing eviction have legal standing to fight it.
Most don’t know. That’s why we exist.
02 / Our Programs
How we fight.
Free legal representation for tenants facing eviction in Fulton and DeKalb counties.
What happens: You get an attorney. You go to court with someone who knows the law. 73% of our clients stay in their homes.
We help building residents form tenant associations and negotiate collectively with landlords.
What happens: Your building gets organized. You negotiate as a group. Landlords respond differently to 40 tenants than to one.
We track and respond to housing legislation at the city and state level.
What happens: Bad bills get fought. Good ones get supported. Your lease is safer because of this work.
Our Standards
What we don’t do
- Take cases we can’t win
- Speak for you without you
- Charge families who can’t afford it
- Give up when landlords push back
The Record
Seven years of wins.
Founded
Two attorneys. A shared office. One conviction: tenants deserve the same quality of legal representation as landlords.
1,000 families
Crossed 1,000 cases handled. 71% kept their housing. We expanded to DeKalb County.
Landmark ruling
A Georgia Court of Appeals decision citing our advocacy changed the notice requirements for Fulton County evictions. Every tenant benefits from this.
4,200 families
4,200 cases. 73% stayed housed. We are not done.
